CAFES DE MEXICO,
has had an historical route in the Mexican coffee sector
and this comment is directed to all of those who just entered the industry
and don’t know much about our trajectory.
In
1985, CAFES DE MEXICOwas
born with the idea of creating a media to keep the sector informed and totry to find the strength balance between the
dictatorial ways in which the governing instrument for the coffee in
Mexico (INMECAFE) was being applied by the
authorities that conformed it, with respect to the coffee growers who
might be producers, beneficiaries, industrialists, exporters or toasters.
CAFES DE MEXICO
started compiling information for its first publication. Because of the
circumstances in which the sector was, which had had a persecution by the
justice solicitors of the country to clarify subjects that we still don’t
understand, silence was almost absolute and the difficulties to find
information took us 6 months. It is important to mention that in those
days, some men of the sector didn’t have a problem giving information,
which is understandable after knowing about all the adventures that many
coffee growers went through. One of the first people interviewed were
Mr. Nicasio Muguira, Mr. Enrique Rodriguez and Mr. Juan Martinez Del
Campo, among others. And that’s how, after 6 months of work, the first
number of CAFES DE MEXICO
was published.
I
remember one session of INMECAFE
in which everybody was asking about the magazine director and there were
even aggressive comments because we possessed information that was
supposed to be managed in “petite committee”. They were asking how come
the information had been known by us. This gives us the idea of the
manipulation that existed in those days. The chore hasn’t been easy and we
have been looking for that balance between authorities and the private and
public sector. CAFES DE MEXICO,since then, has had the
moral support of people whose only interest was to keep a media for being
the sector’s voice and the public opinion forum for the coffee growers
whose expression was being limited. Among others, many important names
were mentioned such as the ones mentioned before: Mr. Eduardo Represas,
Mr. Domingo Muguira, Mr. Rafael Gillaumin, Mr. Pedro Urtiz, Mr. Juan
Rebolledo, Mr. Juan Bueno, Mr. Federico Piñero, Mr. Eduardo Estevez, who
are men that believed inCAFES DE MEXICOand in the need of
keeping a media specialized in Mexican coffee.
In
those days, only the sensational media talked about coffee, which means
that we are the pioneers in the promotion of coffee in Mexico in the
media, with a starting publication that we have kept in the 3,000 magazines.
We get to those people who make decisions in the industry creating a
conscience and homogenizing the criteria in order to help the sector, we
sometimes ask ourselves how we get something that sometimes
is not visible but that can be felt when you read
this informative media; being truthful and without sensational
tendencies that only break the environment to benefit adventurers and new
inversionists.
It’s been said that learning
about coffee takes 100 lessons, one every year. If that’s true,
CAFES DE MEXICO has been
through that road and for
17 years has witnessed and learned that destroying is the easiest thing
but constructing is what represents a continuous and organized work and
that has been our goal since then,
in order to make the
sector find it’s direction:
Mexico, and to preserve what entire generations have constructed with
constant work and effort:The
coffee business, from the coffee properties to the cup and also to reunite
the ideas that sometimes are not heard at the official forums, as we
mentioned before, CAFES DE MEXICO
is the voice of the coffee growers.
Present
times require the immediate actualization to face structural changes in
the industry and in the coffee growers and consumers’ customs. Don’t
wanting to remain behind in that aspect, we have kept in our main topics
not only the sector opinion but the region information and the properties
that produce high quality coffee, the same as the information of the
industry that participates in our sector with the diffusion of sales and
production policies, for informing the sector and the authorities who have
to do with the commercialization, export and industrialization who many of
the times only know the coffee inside the cup. To promote the effort that
Mexican enterprises do to keep the commercial fight of their products is
to give the sector the quality that deserves in Mexico and the rest of the
world, that is one of CAFES DE MEXICO
goals and we truly think we have accomplished it and we are not planning
on leaving it behind in order to continue being the most important
information media of the Mexican coffee, place that has been given to us
after 17 years of continuous work and by the sector trust in our
dedication, continuity and honesty with which we have managed the
information and the professional relationships with the coffee sector.
For
all of those young people that just got in the industry, and we are not
talking about age but about experience, here they have a summary of what
CAFES DE MEXICO
has been till now.
We
have seen an entire coffee producer generation grow and that old coffee
guard disappear little by little with so many adventures and experiences
that they have for sharing with the coming
generations.
Nowadays, that the media have evolved and the
specialized media are less every day it is good that this magazine
continues because that shows the coffee sector
interest on not wanting to be managed in a
general, but is a specific way. And we will keep going until our readers,
yes our readers, say “enough”, which we see as a very far possibility
because they call us everyday interested in getting the new magazine and
demanding it to be delivered to keep being
informed about what’s really happening in the sector.
When some of our readers tell us that
their parents inherited them the habit of reading CAFES DE MEXICO
that keeps our enterprise going because the earnings are being renewed
everyday in quality and well-being for our sector and Mexico’s own good.
